Students in Nigerian universities will no longer
be able to graduate with pass grades with effect from the 2013/2014
academic session.
This comes with the restructuring of the university grading system by the National Universities Commission (NUC)
According to the Vice-Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, who revealed the development at the institution's 2014/2015 matriculation ceremony, the minimum pass mark is now a D-grade.
"What
this means is that the minimum pass mark for courses in the
universities will now be 45 per cent, that is, D-grade instead of the
previous 40 per cent which was E-grade while the minimum class of grade
to be earned by the students will be now be Third Class," Zuru said.
Zuru added that no university will graduate a student who falls below the Third class, which is the D-grade,
Before this new development, students could graduate with the E-grade
